Most of my latest conversations with Amancio were accompanied by Pablo Isla. He helped me by organizing the lunches with the founder and President. But he also has a talent for being able to solve any problem in the world. If there's anything that Ortega needs, Pablo is the person to call. As told by Amancio earlier, Pablo is someone who's not scared of getting his hands dirty. I once asked a driver if he knew Pablo and his answer was quite surprising. He told me that Mr. Ortega had found the best Vice President who won everybody as soon as he started working with them. He told me that Pablo always asks people about their families and has a kind words. This reminded me of the President himself. While having the conversation with the two, I told Pablo that it was strange that in a company like Inditex, all the top management positions were taken by men.

His answer surprised me and reassured me. Pablo told me that the answer depends on what I thought a top management position was. He told me that most store managers at Inditex are women and that 80% of the company staff are women. During my last conversations, I was told that the company is looking to spread Inditex to Asian countries, the Middle East, and Russia. I asked Amancio if this project would mean that the expansion in Europe had to be sidelined to some degree. He told me they would do whatever Pablo would tell them to do, and this made me happy. Amancio has someone working for him whom he trusts and can put blind faith in. Finally, I had the delight to hear the words I've often heard the President say. "This company is a delight."
